The Thought of You
Auctioned at Christie's
The Thought of You is set within an abandoned villa in central Italy, which we explored and documented through photography.
Built in the early 1700s, the villa’s Baroque design was conceived to reflect the commissioning family’s growing prestige and economic power, symbolizing their elevated social status within the region.
Centuries later, the building now stands abandoned, slowly overtaken by decay. Nature enters through deteriorating shutters, cracks spread across the plaster, and paint peels from the ceiling.
Through digital intervention, we introduce growth, light, and movement, breathing new life into the architectural remains and momentarily revitalizing the vacant space.
The work debuted at Christie’s New York during Art Basel Miami, where it was auctioned online and achieved the highest sale of the auction.
Meanwhile, the physical building continues to deteriorate and is gradually being dismantled, underscoring the central theme of the work: time as a continuous cycle of growth and decay.
